WHAT IS FIVE-STAR TRAINING CAMP AND IS THERE A REQUIRED SKILL LEVEL?
Five-Star Training Camp is similar to Training Day, but over the course of two days, where our staff will take campers through even more advanced drills, skills, and game concepts.
Attending Training Day is not a prerequisite to Training Camp, but past campers would build on their foundations while first-time campers would begin to begin to establish a base of fundamental skills.
Five-Star Training Camp is open to all skill levels. Dates and locations will be posted at a later time!
WHAT AGES/GRADES CAN PARTICIPATE IN FIVE-STAR CAMP?
In 2017, all Five-Star Camps are for current or rising (in the summer) 5th to 8th graders.
Campers will be grouped in two divisions: 5th and 6th graders in one division, 7th and 8th graders in the other.
WHY SHOULD MY PLAYER ATTEND A FIVE-STAR CAMP?
Five-Star is committed to making players better by drilling and developing players with game-ready fundamentals and skills. We understand that today’s youth basketball culture is driven by travel team tournaments. Allow us to help you get your money’s worth out of those travel team commitments by helping your player become the best player they can be and perform at their highest level at their team events.
At Five-Star, we believe that Training Day IS game day. We have developed a cutting-edge curriculum and assembled a highly qualified and engaged staff that will help your player develop the necessary skills to make him a better in game situations.
Skills such as ball-handling, shooting, passing, cutting, and moving without the ball, and overall offensive and defensive concepts that are advanced, but still age and skill-level appropriate.
HOW MANY PARTICIPANTS CAN ATTEND CAMP?
Attendance is limited for each camp based on the physical layout of the basketball facility (number of courts, baskets, etc).
Five-Star applies the following standards to our camps to ensure that all players remain actively involved and are getting an adequate number of shots, touches, and repetitions, as well as the proper amount of instruction from coaches:
* No more than 16 players to any 1 basket
* One Camp Coach for every 8 players
Additionally, our curriculum is specifically designed to keep players moving and get each player a high volume of shots and touches.
HOW ARE TEAMS MADE?
For Five-Star Training Day and Training Camp, teams are made at the start of camp based on height. Adjustments are made for any discrepancies in overall team ability. The goal is to have all teams be similar in ability level to create a competitive environment for learning and improvement.
For Super Sessions, players participate in evaluation games on the first day and are “drafted” into teams by the coaches. Trades may be made to even out an discrepancies between teams to create highly competitive game play situations.
WHO ARE THE COACHES AT FIVE-STAR CAMP?
Camp Coaches are current college, high school, or youth coaches that are carefully vetted through our application process to ensure they meet our standards and requirements of experience, philosophy, and strategy.
Additionally, all coaches are required to participate in a curriculum orientation to ensure consistent understanding of the concepts that are going to be taught the Five-Star way. All coaches are required to pass a background check prior to coaching at camp. Additionally, several coaches are sourced through our partnership with the Rising Coaches Elite.
Five-Star has a rich history of producing high-level coaches, evidenced by our alumni list, and we’re committed to building on that tradition.
ARE THERE ATHLETIC TRAINERS AT YOUR CAMPS AND OTHER EVENTS?
Yes, all Five-Star camps and events will be staffed with a certified athletic trainer.
IS LUNCH PROVIDED BY THE CAMP?
Lunch is NOT provided, but there is a 1-hour lunch break in the middle of the day. We encourage campers to pack and bring their own lunch. (Please do not bring any peanut or other nut-based products due to potential allergies of other campers). Depending on location, a concession stand may be available.
Gatorade is an official partner of Five-Star, so Gatorade sports drinks and other products will be available for free throughout the camp. However, campers are still encouraged to bring their own water bottles to ensure proper hydration throughout the camp.
SHOULD WE SEND OUR SON TO CAMP WITH EXTRA SPENDING MONEY?
Spending money is not required. However, some locations may have concession stands or vending machines available. Since we do not provide lunch, some spending money may be appropriate.
Additionally, at some Five-Star sites, there will be camp items for sale.
Like all items that a camper brings to camp, Five-Star will not be responsible for items that are lost, misplaced, or stolen. We strongly recommend that if campers do bring cash or valuables to camp that they store them securely.
WHAT INFORMATION AND FORMS ARE REQUIRED FOR REGISTRATION?
During the registration process, we require basic player information such as name and grade, as well as emergency contact information (preferably a parent or legal guardian).
Additionally, we ask for campers’ medical insurance information in the event that there’s an on-site medical issue. Please have your carrier, policyholder, and policy number handy during registration.
Lastly, registration will not be complete until the parent or legal guardian has completed our player waiver by electronically signing the release.

All campers will also receive an official Five-Star t-shirt, player evaluation report, and personalized digital media kit.
Many private trainers charge up to $75 for just one hour of training, so you are getting a lot of value by comparison with the added component of competing against peers in a curriculum designed by Five-Star staff to make you a better player in all settings.
Think how many shots, touches, and reps your player will get in one day of Five-Star camp in comparison to an entire weekend at a travel team tournament.
DO ALL AGES/GRADES PARTICIPATE TOGETHER OR ARE THEY SEPARATED?
Campers will be divided by age to ensure they are playing against players of similar size, maturity, and skill level.
DOES MY CAMPER GET TO PLAY GAMES?
Our camps are focused heavily on skill training and implementing acquired fundamental skills into game-play. The majority of camp is station work that is taught in game-like scenarios. We do play live 5-on-5 competitions after each set of stations, so that campers can apply their learned skills into game action, but those games are also closely controlled by coaches to continue delivering proper instruction and application of skills.

YES! Please stay and watch. We encourage parents and others to watch their camper during camp. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask the Camp Director. There is no admission fee for spectators.
CAN I PICK UP MY SON FOR LUNCH OFF-SITE?
We prefer that parents DO NOT take players off-site for lunch. if you do plan to take your camper off the premise for lunch, we require that you to provide that information during morning registration, so that we can sign your camper in and out for lunch, keeping track of their whereabouts. Players can only be signed out by the specified person designated at registration.
WHAT EQUIPMENT WILL I NEED?
Players should come equipped with basketball shoes, shorts, and a t-shirt. Five-Star will provide each camper with an official camp t-shirt that will be worn during camp for identification purposes. Gatorade products will be provided, but campers are encouraged and allowed to bring their own water bottles.
Please DO NOT bring a basketball. Camp basketballs will be provided, and Five-Star is not responsible for lost, stolen, or misplaced personal items including, but not limited to, basketballs.
